WILMA JEAN JOHNSON

Funeral services for Wilma Jean Johnson will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Scott Rosen officiating. Burial will follow at the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Wilma Jean Johnson, daughter of James Eugene and Grace Mae (Uhl) Murrow, was born on February 25, 1933, west of Alva, Oklahoma, in Woods County. She passed away on February 13, 2023 at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

She attended Farry High School graduating in 1951. In 1969, Wilma went to Seward County Community College. She received her Bachelors degree in 1972 from Panhandle State University and her Masters in 1982 from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Wilma was an elementary school teacher for 22 years retiring in 1972.

She married Jackie Junior Johnson on August 4, 1952 at Cora Nazarene Church in Woods County, Oklahoma.

She attended Central Christian Church in Liberal Kansas and Bible Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas. She was active at the Liberal Senior Citizen Center, McKinley PTA, Aurora, Delta Kappa Gamma, Red Hat Society, Book Club, and was a volunteer at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jackie in 2005; sister, Yvonne Nieman; and grandson, Jacob Grant.

She is survived by her son Jackie and wife Jean Johnson of Holcomb, Kansas; daughters, Jeanette Grant and husband Wesley of Houston, Texas, Janella Mendenhall of Yukon; sister, LaVida Anderson and husband Elmo of Helena; sisters-in-law, Darla Johnson of Stillwater; Lucille Johnson of Alva; grandsons, Robert Grant of Houston, Texas, Adam and wife Melissa Grant of Cypress, Texas, Jason and wife Jenna Johnson of Holcomb, Kansas, Jerry and wife Shelley Johnson of Holcomb, Kansas, Brett and wife Megan Mendenhall of Yukon; 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many other family members and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to St. Catherine Hospice of Garden City, Kansas.
