Alva Cemetery


Alva – The funeral for George Cheatham Icke, 76, who died Sunday, February 16, 1992, at Share Medical Center, will be at 2 PM Thursday at Wharton Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rick Stout, pastor of North Gate Baptist Church, McAlester, will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.

He was born May 15, 1915, near Alva to Albert and Dora Wilks Icke and attended Alva Westside Grade School. He worked for Farmers Co-op and for several farmers.

On October 15, 1938, he married One Stone at Cherokee. They lived in Alva. He worked for Reed Farm and Ranch Supply, later was in construction as a carpenter and finish carpenter. He was a veteran of World War I I, serving with the 49th Division (Rail Splitter) Company K, 333 Infantry from April 24, 1944, to August 21, 1945. He served in the European Theater and was in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes and Germany.

He was a member of Alva Bible Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Donald of Woodlands, Texas, David and Charles of Enid; two sisters, Dorothy McKinley and Lucy Throckmorton, both of Alva; two brothers, Herman of Enid and Paul of Wendell, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Bible Baptist Church.
