Alva Cemetery


Alva – Gertrude M. Heater, 85, died Thursday evening in a local hospital. She was born May 19, 1893, near Garden City, Kansas, and moved with her family to the Lyons, Kansas, area.

When she was 17 the family moved to the Ozark Hills near Dora, Missouri, and to Alva six years later.

On September 10, 1918, she and Oden Van Heater were married at Alva. He died November 14, 1919. She was a member of the Alva First Baptist Church. Mrs. Heater worked for the Bell Hotel for 33 years, retiring in 1962.

She was preceded in death by her only son, LeRoy Van Heater on July 18, 1921; twin brothers, Elmer and Arthur Lebond.

Mrs. Heater has no known living survivors.

Her funeral will be at 1 PM Monday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jere D. Mitchell, pastor of the AlvaFfirst Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.
