Deceased: Richard 'Dick' Harrison
Date: November 10, 2008

The funeral for Harold Richard "Dick" Harrison, 78, of Alva, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at First Christian Church. The Revs. Ron Pingelton and William S. Kalfas will officiate. Burial for family and close friends will be 12:30 p.m. in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.

He was born May 27, 1930, to Lloyd Lee and Juanita Lorraine Jacobs Harrison and died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in Oklahoma City.

He was a graduate of Alva High School and served with the 45th Infantry Signal Corps during the Korean War.

He married Thamazin Heydman Aug. 8, 1954, in Cherokee. He studied electronics and began work for Carl and Anna Belle Shafer in 1952. He and partners purchased the electronics business and formed Shafer Inc., where he worked until his retirement in June 1993. He was baptized at Alva First Christian (Disciples of Christ) in 1941, where he has remained a member, deacon, elder, cabinet and board member and choir member. He was a 52-year member of Alva Masonic Lodge 105 and a 32nd Degree Mason in Scottish Rite. He served as Rainbow Dad for 42 years. He and his wife were named Alva Citizens of the Year in 1990. He was past president of Alva Golf and Country Club and Alva Kiwanis Club. He was on the committee that sponsored the first Bahama Breakaway and served as Torch Run Chairman for the 1989 Olympic Games. They have supported Northwest Oklahoma State University academics and sports and were members of 1st and 2nd Century, the Millennium Club and the Presidents Association. The !
Dick and Thamazin Harrison Scholarship at NWOSU was established this year in honor of Kelli and Brock Schnebel. He was a charter member of Alva Community Theartre Inc. and had built most of the sets for the plays for 36 years. He also was House Manager and maintained the theatre as a volunteer for 16 years.

Surviving are his wife, Thamazin of Alva; one daughter, Kelli Schnebel; one sister, Roberta Wilson; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Dick and Thamazin Harrison Scholarship at NWOSU or Alva First Christian Church.
