Alva Cemetery


ALVA — The funeral for Donnie David Gooch, 75, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Bersche will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.

He was born Feb. 9, 1934, north of Waynoka to David Francis and Edith Ellen Gottsch Gooch and died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in Alva.

He attended Rose Valley and Avard Public Schools and graduated from Waynoka High School in 1952.

He worked for the Sante Fe railroad and later moved to Medicine Lodge, Kan., where he worked for National Gypsum.

He married Helen Elaine Goucher in 1955 in Avard. She died in 1999.

He was drafted into the Army in 1956 and served two years active duty and two years in Oklahoma National Guard.

He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1967. He earned a master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1975.

He taught a total of 28 years at elementary schools in Centerview, Freedom, Sharon and Chisholm, where he retired in 1992.

He also farmed in Avard.

Surviving are one daughter, Debra Sample of Morrison; one brother, Gary Gooch of Midwest City; and seven grandsons.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, diabetes research.
