Alva Cemetery


Alva – Services for Justine Earnest, 74, who died Sunday in an Alva hospital, will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darrel Hardy, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.

Mrs. Earnest was born July 15, 1910, at Alva, the daughter of Alta and Birch Haines. She attended Alva schools and was married to Forest I. Earnest September 19, 1927.

They farmed southwest of Alva and in 1932 moved to Selman. Five years later they moved to Enid and in 1946 to Oregon where they lived 30 years. While there, she taught piano, organ and stringed instruments.

She lived in Florida seven years before returning to Alva in 1977. Mrs. Earnest was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Alva Research Club and the Tulip Unit of the Garden Club.

Mrs. Earnest was preceded in death by her father in 1942 and by her mother on June 28 of this year. She was also preceded by two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include her husband Forest of the home; a son David M. Earnest, two grandchildren and two great – grandchildren, all of Merritt Island, Florida; a sister, Dorothy Parker of Attica, Kansas.
