Alva Cemetery


Alva – Cynthia Elizabeth Darr, 82, died Saturday in an Alva hospital. Her funeral will be at 10 AM Tuesday in the Alva First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Daryl Hardy, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery, under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Chapel.

She was born near Medicine Lodge, Kansas, January 25, 1905, to Charles and Hattie Mapes Rackley.

She and Andrew Jackson "Jack" Darr were married July 31, 1922, in Alva. They farmed in the Farry area until moving to Vancouver, Washington, in 1939. After World War I I, they returned to Alva.

She was a member of the Alva First United Methodist Church, the UMW and the Jolly Housewives Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, by a grandson, two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include four daughters, Lydia Mae Miller, Odessa, Texas, Katherine Koch, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Glenn (Delza Faye) Miller, Denver, Colorado, and Rose Marie Elmore of Alva; a son, Merrit of Casper, Wyoming; eight grandchildren and 10 great – grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
