Funeral services for Stanley Ray Almgren will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the Alva First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Carol Cook Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with the family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Stanley Ray Almgren, son of the late Roy Carl and Dorene Wilma (Thiessen) Almgren, was born March 2, 1946, at Clinton, Oklahoma, and passed away February 20, 2018, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

Stanley graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City with the Class of 1964. On October 13, 1965, he began his two years of service in the United States Army. He went AWOL for a few days to marry his high school sweetheart, Karen Ann Williams on September 3, 1966.

He attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma. They then moved to Alva where they managed the Alva Stockade from 1971 until 1984. He then went to work for the Goldspot Dairy, which later was bought out by Hiland Dairy, where he worked until his retirement in 2009.

He was a member of the Alva First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Jaycees, where he received the honor of JCI Senator and Oklahoma Governorship. He enjoyed making model cars and model airplanes. Other than family, the joy of his life was his beloved 1957 Chevy.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry James Bullen, two sisters-in-law, Barbara Almgren and Karen’s twin, Sharon Cromwell.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Karen, of Alva; two daughters, Karmen Ann Andrews of Alva, and Kandee Ann Almgren and significant other, Leonard Schwerdtfeger, of Alva; his grandson, Nathan Roy Andrews of Alva; one brother, R. C. Almgren of Oklahoma City, two sisters, Cheryl McClain of Oklahoma City and Betty Crawford and husband, Ralph, of Plano, Texas; and his faithful dog, Elsee Mae Almgren; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the funeral home.
