IN LOVING MEMORY OF LOUISE M. GREEN
A 50-YEAR RESIDENT OF MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES
Louise Green, who lived in this community for many years, passed away on June
9, 2004 from cardiopulmonary arrest while en route to Bakersfield Heart
Hospital. Born Louise Rowland in Dill City, Oklahoma, on August 23, 1932, her
family moved to East Bakersfield when she was about 3 years old. Louise grew up
up the Bakersfield area with her grandparents, mother, two brothers and sister.
Louise met her beloved husband, Dallas A. Green, in 1948, while traveling the
country with Fox Studios selling picture portraits. Dallas courted her for
about 1 year. On October 26, 1949 they married with only a dime to their name.
They lived happily in Alabama for another year and then decided to move west
to California.
In California, they settled in the Gorman area. Louise started waitressing
at a truck stop east of Gorman, called the Giant Lemon, while Dallas worked at
the Gorman Texaco gas station for Milton Lenke. In addition to Louise
waitressing, she also managed all of Mr. Lenke's secretarial duties for the station.
They lived in a small studio attached to the Texaco.
Next, Louise and Dallas started buying their own gas stations and before long
they owned five Texaco Stations. They ranged from Mettler to Castaic. In
addition to the stations, they both tried their hands in other businesses. They
built a restaurant, at the time named Mark's, where Rocky's Bar and Grill is
today. They owned and ran a liquor store in Lebec, where Sam's Jr. Market is
now. Also, they had their own auto parts store called Green's Auto Parts.
After these ventures they started leasing their buildings and went into the
rock, sand, and gravel business in addition to buying, selling, and trading used
equipment. They were very successful at business and in all of their ventures.
Many of the locals would stop by to see Louise and Dallas. They loved to get
a glass of Louise's delicious iced tea, which she was famous for. Louise
also made the best homemade pies you ever tasted. Louise Green was a wonderful
cook, a real lady, with endless talents, beyond the businesswoman she was. She
had great love for her family and friends.
Louise M. Green was an extraordinary woman, who would always bring a smile to
your face. Very strong-willed and determined, Louise would volunteer her
spare time around the community and was always thinking of how she could help
others. She will be greatly missed in the community where she was responsible
for so much change.
She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jack Traum and a son, Dallas
Green, III. Her grandchildren include Autumn Mitchell, Dallas Green IV and
Lacey, Colt, Marie, Dewey, and Austin Green.
The family will be honoring Louise's prearranged wishes to have her ashes
spread at sea in the Ventura area. The memorial service will be private.
