Mr. Presley was born April 5, 1919, in Foss, Oklahoma, to C. D. and Kate Presley. He grew up in Texas and New Mexico and moved to Bakersfield in 1935 to live with his mother. He owned several restaurants in Bakersfield before he started selling cars. He then went to work for Aram Adams Pontiac until Adam's death, and continued with the company when John Barber took over the dealership. The rest of his working years were spent with John Barber Pontiac and Gene Winer Cadillac.
He was a charter member of the Bakersfield Country Club, a 56-year member of the Elks' Lodge, had been a member for over 50 years of Libertas Security Lodge #466 F.&A.M., and was a member of the Shrine Club. He was most proud of his military service, having been a member of the Third Infantry Division, during which time he was injured several times while serving in Sicily and North Africa.
Survivors include his wife, Alice J. Presley; son, Jenks T. Presley, Jr. and his wife, Joany; grandson J. T. Presley III; and other grandsons, Jeffrey, Matthew, Jason and Robin.
Mr. Presley received excellent care at Memorial Hospital during his six week stay there. His family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tommy Lee, Dr. Romain Clerou, Dr. Nick Hansa, Dr. Ellis of E.R. and Dr. Joseph Rabban.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite church.
Visitation will begin Thursday at 12:00 noon at Greenlawn Mortuary.
