DALHART - Homer Smith, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery of Dalhart with Dr. Clifford Dane, of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Port, Okla., to Reuben and Lora (Leonard) Smith. He was raised in Littlefield and was a World War II veteran serving under General Patton in the European Theatre.
He married Berneice Brown on May 9, 1946, in Pampa. They moved to Dalhart in 1965. He owned and operated a trucking company and retired in 1980. He was a charter member of the local Elks club and a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dwayne Smith of Dalhart and Jerry Smith of Mineral Wells; two daughters, Lora McPherson of Dallas and Sue Carr of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles Smith of Littlefield; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, hospice fund, 6010 W. Amarillo Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106-1992.
