Clarence Olen Sumpter, 88, resident of Oglesby died at 1:07 AM, Wednesday near Oglesby. He was born March 25, 1927 at Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Lewis Casper and Sena Hula (Woodard).
Clarence served in the Navy during WW II. He returned home to Bartlesville where he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in the Purchasing department. After ten years they offered him a job in Alexandria, Egypt where he served two years. He went to work in London for four years before returning to Bartlesville for two years. He then returned to London to work for another fifteen years. He felt very fortunate to be part of the crew that developed the Ekofisk (North Shore) development for Phillips Petroleum Company. Clarence was the purchasing agent for this field. Back home in Bartlesville, he took an early retirement; then started ranching for several years. For many years he raised Simmental cattle and showed at the Tulsa State Fair. He was very active with the State organization. He had served as President of the State Simmental organization, as well as an officer and was on many committees. Clarence was an avid supporter of their youth organization.
He was a member of Bartlesville Masonic Lodge # 284 AF & AM, and Bartlesville First Church.
Full Military Honors were presented by the members of the Military Honor Guard of the Bartlesville American Legion Post #105.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Sumpter's memory to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children c/o the Akdar Shrine Temple 2808 S. Sheridan Tulsa, OK. 74129-1014, or to the charity of your choice.
He is survived by his wife Juanita Joan (Sweetland) Sumpter, of the home, Brother Carl Sumpter and wife Thelma of Ramona, Oklahoma, Sister Margaret Russell of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Two grandchildren, Stephanie Burk and Stephen Walker of Bartlesville; two great-grandchildren Brittany and Justin Burk and two Great- Great- Grandchildren Olivia Ayne and James Burk all of Bartlesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis C. and Sena H. Sumpter, and by two daughters, Barbara Ann Terry and LaDonna Walker both in 2013, and four brothers Earl, Irvin, Darrell, and Elmer Sumpter, three sisters, Pearl Ford, Merle Davis, and Wanda Jack.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Friday November 6, 2015 at the Bartlesville First Church with Dr. Kevin Tully of the Bartlesville First Church officating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
