Mr. John Edward Watters

Mr. John Edward Watters, 76, of Bartlesville, died at 4:48 A.M. Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Talihina Veterans Center at Talihina, Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Mr. Watters will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday at the Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Gordon officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105. Funeral services and interment will be directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
A memorial has been established and those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Mr. Watters may do so to: Alzheimer's Association, 2448 East 81st. Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74137.
Friends who wish may call for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home until 9 P.M. on Monday as the casket will remain closed at the services.
Casket escorts will include Steve Robinson, Caleb Gordon, David Gordon, James Preston, Dale Copeland and Larry Watters.
Mr. Watters was born at Ochelata, Oklahoma on March 15, 1936 to Samuel Benton and Kate (Workman) Watters. He grew up and received his education in Bartlesville graduating from College High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Army in which he served from July of 1954 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in June of 1957. He was married to Patricia Ann Cox on October 5, 1954 in Bartlesville. Following his military services they returned to Bartlesville where they have made their home most of their married life. He was employed with the Bartlesville Fire Department from 1957 until his retirement in February 1979. He was then employed with Phillips Petroleum Company from 1981 until 1993. While employed at the fire department he also worked for Yorman Nursery for 10 years and during his employment with Phillips he also operated his own company, Watters Landscaping. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, enjoyed woodworking and making canes out of spools. He was also a writer who kept journals of his life and happenings around him for over 30 years.
Mr. Watters is survived by his wife, Patty, one daughter, Kassandra Ann Levingston and her husband Bob of Bartlesville, three sons, Michael Edward Watters and wife Mary of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jeffery Dewayne Watters and wife Sandy of Bartlesville and Jeremy Allen Watters and wife Rachel of Kansas, Oklahoma, one brother, Joe Pat Watters of Gold Canyon, Arizona, six grandchildren, Anne Compton, Rachel Watters, Jessica Watters, Dylan Richmond, Lucas Watters and James Preston and two great grandchildren, Max Compton and Lily Compton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
