Karl Robert (Bob) Johansen Jr.

Memorial Park Cemetery

Karl Robert (Bob) Johansen Jr. was born to Gladys & Karl Johansen on May 24, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday February 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Following his mother's passing, his father Karl married Margaret Kahler (Kappleman) in Iowa where he was raised alongside his younger brother David and sister Mary. Bob graduated from Iowa State University with an Engineering degree and subsequently earned his masters at Oklahoma State University. After graduating from Iowa State, he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to begin his respected 38-year career with Phillips Petroleum Company where he achieved the position of Director of Transportation in Rail Operations and Maintenance. It is in Bartlesville where he met the love of his life, Juanita Dean Covington. They married on September 7, 1957 and together raised three daughters, Carol, Amy, and Mary, of whom Bob always expressed great pride. Bob & Juanita were life-long members of First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville where they initially met, serving in many roles together for the youth ministry, choir and other various outreach programs. Bob's love of golf motivated him to later join Hillcrest Country Club, where he enjoyed his weekly rounds of golf with friends and where they and their daughters and grandchildren spent many happy days together.

Bob was an inspiration to his family, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. His kindness and gentle-hearted nature was cherished by so many close friends that he and Juanita made together in Bartlesville. He truly loved serving his community, participating for many years as an active member of the Lions Club and the Jaycees. His generosity and the joy he took in giving to others was exemplified by the many programs he always looked forward to participating in including the Lions Club Annual Pancake Day where he raised funds as the proud 'head pancake chef' and the annual toy drives and delivery to grateful parents on Christmas mornings. Bob was also proud to lead the efforts for many years gathering and delivering donated eyeglasses through the Lions Club, that were sent across the world to help others in need.

In his retirement years, Bob & Juanita traveled the world, embarking on many global excursions together and with his brother, sister, and extended family. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved and appreciated every moment that God provided him. Bob is preceded in death by his father, Karl R. Johansen Sr., his mothers, Gladys Close and Margaret Johansen (Onnen), his Great Aunt Daisey Bible who raised him from birth to one years of age, and his brother-n-law Major Charles B. Brown. Bob is survived by his loving wife Juanita of 64 years, their 3 daughters, Carol Womble of Edmond, Amy Foskin (Steve) of Edmond, and Mary Madden (Tim) of Houston, Texas, his grandchildren Michelle Sisson (Matt), Billy Womble, Lauren, Kelsey & Meagan Foskin, Andy Madden, Colleen Murrell (Jeremiah) & Amy Madden, great-grandsons Mason & Gabriel Sisson, brother David Johansen (Sue) and their children Rob Johansen (Karen) & Debbie Budden (Allen), sister Mary Brown and her children Doug Brown (Michelle) and Meg Brown (Jen Self), and his sister-in-law Joy Grimsley.

Arrangements are being provided by Matthews Funeral Home at 601 S. Kelly in Edmond. Services will be held at New Covenant United Methodist Church at 2700 S. Boulevard, Edmond, Oklahoma on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm followed by a separate graveside service Tuesday at 3pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville Oklahoma.
