Betty Mae Barnhill Dowd passed away January 17, 2018, with her loving family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was 94 years old.

Betty was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her smile, positive energy, and joy for life will be missed by many people, especially her family: son Jerome P. Dowd and wife Janis of Bartlesville, daughter Kathy Alexander and husband John of Broken Arrow; daughter Kathryn Dowd, also of Broken Arrow; and sister Lois Pelphrey of Burbank, CA. She was also cherished by her grandchildren Eric Alexander, Tammy Dowd Milligan, Renée Alexander Pierson, Lieutenant Commander Cody Dowd, and Jerome M. Dowd, and by her ten great grandchildren.
Betty was born in Neodesha, Kansas on June 26, 1923 to Walter Roy and Ruth Barnhill, and lived in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She married Jerome H. Dowd on June 6, 1947, and remained his loving wife and partner until his death in February, 1993. Betty was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, and was very active in work at the Cookson Hills Center, the Bridal Committee, and the Widows Support Group.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cookson Hills UMC Mission, P.O. Box 130, Cookson, OK 74427.

The family would like to thank Dr. Anderson Mehrle for his excellent and thoughtful care, to the staff and residents of Green Country Village for the warm friendship provided in her last years, and to Hannah Ethridge for her loving care and friendship.

Services for Mrs. Dowd will be held on Monday, January 22, at 2:00 PM, in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Meri Whitaker will be the officiant.

Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will be present prior to the service on Monday from 12:30-1:30 PM in the funeral home to greet friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
