Mark and Sherry Tate of Prairie Song, died suddenly Friday at Prairie Song, their family’s homage to the 1800s American Old West.
Mark, 57, was born the son of Kenneth and Betty Tate on August 24, 1958, in Bartlesville. He was raised and educated in Bartlesville, graduating from Sooner High in 1976. While in school he played the saxophone in the Spartans marching band. Mark worked at the Pizza Inn for Jack Viles. Later he worked with his brother Larry at Larry Tate Texaco. Mark also operated his own business Mark Tate Tire and Auto Service in Dewey for several years. But the job Mark enjoyed best by far was driving tractor trailers over the road. Like his dad, Mark loved collecting and his favorite items were trinkets, tools, Texaco toys, hats and anything Wizard of Oz. He also enjoyed watching WWF wrestling and old westerns on TV, and spending time with his family.
Sherry, 52, was born the daughter of Larry and Donna (Christlieb) Pendleton in Norfolk, Virginia, on January 14, 1963. She was raised and educated in Bartlesville. Sherry worked various jobs before starting her 25-year career with Wal-Mart where she held the position of Deli Manager; she was also known as a great practical joker by her staff and Wal-Mart family. Sherry had a great sense of humor; she was always making sure everyone around her was smiling. She was a loving and caring person whose strength carried her family through the many tough times. Sherry was dedicated to her family and was a loving mother to her son Dennis. Her passions included collecting Native American dolls, photography, and art. Sherry loved cooking for her family and friends and she was famous for her desserts especially her brownies.
When Mark and Sherry were first introduced, Mark had to make great efforts to secure a first date with her and win her affection. They dated several years and were married six years ago. They have been inseparable ever since - Mark even loved to drive her back and forth to work every day. They shared a passion for antiquing and encouraged each other when on the hunt for new treasures. They both loved Prairie Song and helped out at its many events and activities, including feeding longhorn cattle.
Mark is survived by his father Kenneth Tate and Marilyn of Prairie Song, his mother Betty Tate of Bartlesville; two children, Mark Tate II and Ladonna, and Brandy Mann and Justin all of Bartlesville; two brothers Larry Tate and Pam, and Kenny Tate and Ellen Cooper, all of Bartlesville; and six grandchildren, Brandon Tidwell, Jameshia Tate, Joseph Allen, Madyson Tate, Mark Tate III and Trinity Osborne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sherry is survived by her father Larry Pendleton of Seattle; one son Dennis Pendleton of Bartlesville; one brother David Pendleton of Seattle; four sisters, Linda Pendleton of Seattle, Stephanie McIntire, Debra Grooms and Amy Scott, all of Bartlesville; and nine grandchildren, Dennis, Zoey, Jasmine, Nathan, Cadance, Kyanna, Maggie, Dustin and Lucas. She is preceded in death by her mother Donna Scott and one brother Richard Pendleton.
Funeral services for Mark and Sherry will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Prairie Song, with Rev. Everett Peace officiating.
Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Mark and Sherry’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
