Iris M. Steeley, 95, entered the kingdom of heaven at her home on October 11, 2015, following a short illness. Mrs. Steeley was born in rural Cherokee County on October 11, 1920. She was raised and received her education in Muskogee. She was united in marriage with Johnnie Steeley on October 14, 1939. They began their married life in Cherokee County, moved to Commerce and settled in the Bartlesville area in 1949.
Mrs. Steeley joined the staff of Jane Phillips Hospital in 1953. She retired with nearly 40 years of service.
The Steeley's operated the Lazy Rocking S. Ranch north of Dewey for over 54 years.
She is survived by a son Bobby Steeley and his wife Brenda of Claremore; a daughter Elaine Botelho and her husband Mike of Pharr, TX.; a daughter-in-law Patsy Steeley of Rural Dewey. Also six grandchildren; Jake Steeley (Vicky) of Talala; Keith Steeley of Dewey; Jennifer DuBois (John) of Tulsa; Karen Watson (Jimmy) of Verdigris; Joyce Mitchell (Jerry) of Azle, TX.; Judy Fair of Dewey; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brother; Ira F. "Babe" Ross, of Ft. Gibson; and sisters Ethel Gladd (Fred) of Tahlequah; Ruth Ann Garoutte of Joplin, MO.
Mrs. Steeley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnnie; a son, Johnnie Paul Steeley, Sr.; a brother Louie Ross; and a sister Rosemary McAlister.
Services will be at 10:30 AM at the Copan United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 14, followed by interment at the Dewey Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Stumpff Funeral Home Tuesday evening October 13 from 6 to 7:30 PM. And 9 to 10 AM Wednesday at the Copan United Methodist Church.
In lieu of Flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, TN. Friends who wish may sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.stumpff.org Funeral Home.
