DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Julie K. Smith, 62, of Copan, died Monday in Tulsa.

Julie was born the daughter of Howard and Vivian (Kelly) Bell on February 14, 1955, in Mason City, Iowa where she was raised and educated. She married her high school sweetheart David Hansen and they raised their three boys between Davenport, Iowa, and Mason City and Clear Lake, Iowa. Once the boys were grown they moved to NW Arkansas, to the Fayetteville area, settling in Witter where they enjoyed the laid back rural life.

In 2008 after 36 years of loving marriage David preceded her in death.

Julie then opened a new chapter in her life when she met Dusty Joe at the VA hospital where they both worked at. For the last nine years Dusty and Julie enjoyed married life together. Once retired they bought a motor home and set off across America, from Texas then to Wyoming and Cheyenne through the bad lands of South Dakota to her hometown Mason City, and back to Texas before moving to Copan, OK, to work for the Army Corp of Engineers as the gatekeepers of Copan Point park.

Julie made sure the birds that visited her home had bird seed, as well as corn for the deer. She loved nature and being outdoors and all of the creatures that go with it. While still a mom of three young boys she was active in their many school and sporting activities and she was proud of the men they became. Most of all she loved the Lord and her church family dearly.

Julie is survived by her loving husband Dusty Joe of the home; three sons Michael Hansen of Des Moines, IA, Daniel Hansen and Jennifer of Chesapeake, VA, and Brian Hansen and Crystal; two brothers, Mike Bell and Gloria of Montana, and Steve Bell and Michelle of Rockwell, IA; three sisters Cheri Able and Denny of Bettendorf, IA, Vicki Hentges and Jim of Mason City, and Kathy Olson and Mitch of Plymouth, IA, as well as 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her first husband David Hansen and her parents.
