John (J.R.) Royal Glass, 85, of Dewey, died at 8:43pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at the Journey Home in Dewey surrounded by his family and friends.

Memorial services for J.R. Glass will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Bluestem Baptist Church in Dewey with Bruce Almy officiating. A private interment was in the Dewey Cemetery directed by Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

J.R. Glass was born on September 28, 1934 to Luell W. Glass and Frances Anna (Wilson) Glass in Blackwell, Oklahoma. John attended school in Deer Creek until the family moved to a farm east of Elk City, Kansas, in 1950. He then attended Elk City schools until his graduation in 1953. John met the love of his life, Carol Nadean Lair, when a mutual friend arranged a date between the two. On March 30, 1955, John and Carol were married and at the time of Carol’s passing in 2018 they were married for 63 years. In 1959 John went to work for Reda Pump as a machinist and moved to the Bartlesville and Dewey area in 1959. After his early retirement from Reda Pump he continued working as a machinist for Adam’s Manufacturing. After his Dad retired from farming and moved to town John purchased the farm and continued farming till his retirement. John and Carol loved to travel with friends and had been around most of the United States and even into Canada and Alaska. They loved to play board games and dominos with family and friends. During the 60s and 70s John raced micro midgets in Bartlesville and Coffeyville Kansas. His racing also took him into other states including Tennessee.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Carol, his parents Luell and Frances Glass, and a younger brother, Leo Glass.

John is survived by three children, Russell Glass (wife Toni) of Bartlesville, Terri McCarty (husband Pat) of Dewey, and Gary Glass (wife Renee) also of Dewey. Eight Grandchildren Nathan Glass (wife Allyson), Chase Glass, Chad McCarty (wife Amy), Todd McCarty (wife Krystal), Amy Morton (husband Levi), Robert (RT) McCarty, Rachel Showler (husband Ben), and Samantha Glass. Five great grandchildren Melanie Glass, Shane Glass, Penelope Showler, Mason McCarty and Madelyn McCarty, three sisters, Jean Whistler of Coffeyville, Kansas, Katherine Smith (husband Robert) of Fredonia, Kansas and Darlene Harper (husband Byron) of Dewey and two sister-in-laws, Carol Glass of Bartlesville and Paula Muller of Independence, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers donations are being asked for the Journey Home, 900 NE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK or Grace Hospice of Oklahoma, PO Box 33234, Tulsa, OK.
