WELLINGTON - Paralee Brock Coleman, 95, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in Canyon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wellington Church of Christ with Gaylord
Cook of Gruver Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Dozier Cemetery
by Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coleman was born Feb. 19, 1907, in Grapevine. Upon graduation from
North Texas State Normal College at Denton in 1928, she came to Wellington
as a Collingsworth County Home Demonstration Agent.
She married a local rancher, Jay Dee Coleman in 1931. They moved to Dozier
and later bought a ranch near McLean.
Besides teaching third through fifth grades at Dozier School, her career included
teaching home economics at Samnorwood, McLean and Wellington. Upon
retirement in 1968, she traveled the world and co-authored, "Time Marches
On" with John S. Coleman Jr.
She moved to Canyon in 1997, having lived in Collingsworth County for 68
years. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the
American Revolution, Business and Professional Women's Club, Wellington
Hospital Auxiliary, RSVP Club and Wellington Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, John D. Coleman and wife Sandra, and J. Mario Coleman and wife, Barbara, all of Canyon; five grandchildren, Carol Frye of Sweetwater, Terri Bass and Susan Burgoon, both of Canyon, Nick Coleman of Crestwood, Ky., and Scott Coleman of Galveston; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Lewis C. Brock of Fairfield, Ill.
The family suggests memorials be to Dozier Cemetery Association, 15330 County Road H, Shamrock, TX 79079; or Westview Boys Home, P.O. Box
553, Hollis, OK 73550-0553.
