Lanita (Gail) Cotton
1942 - 2005
Lanita (Gail) Cotton February 26, 1942 June 14, 2005 Lanita Gail Cotton was born February 26, 1942
in Owasso, Oklahoma and she passed away on June 14, 2005 in Bakersfield with her family by her
side.
Gail was preceded in death by her infant son, David Eric Cotton; and she is survived by her
husband Terrill Cotton; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Karen Cotton and Bill and Becky Cotton;
daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Peter Mathews; grandchildren, Aaron, Bryson, Brittany, Jacob
and Ryan; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Donna Eggers; sister, Twalla VanWorth; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Gail was a fun loving young girl from Old River, who grew up to become a feisty and fiercely loyal
friend or family member. Her brother and she would laugh and tell of the pranks and adventures of
their childhood. Many of the friends she made during grade school becoming lifelong family
friends.
Shortly after high school graduation, Gail married Terrill in 1959. As they began having children,
her family became her main focus. Gail was always supportive of her family and whatever activity
they pursued. Many weekends she and her poodle Bridget could be seen holding down camp while
Cotton, Dan and then Billy raced motorcycles in the desert. She was also her daughters Brownie
Leader and softball coach as she grew up through the years. She later supported her grandchildren
in that same fashion, attending BMX races, school plays and baseball games. Gail supported other
kids and her childrens friends in much the same way there was always an extra kid at the table
eating tacos or camping with the family in the desert.
As her kids moved from home, she and Cotton spent many weekends and vacations on the Colorado
River. She loved to fish and enjoyed the peace of the water. Gail also found time for her own
pursuits. Rising early to read a good book, paint ceramics or share a cup of coffee with her
friends. In learning of her grandmothers passing, I think Brittany said it best I would like to
have told her, Grandma, you are the best. I love you. Now go to Heaven for a rest.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. For additional service information or floral
delivery information, please contact Basham Funeral Care 873-8200.
