Walter Marion & Minnie Bell (Nesmith) Hughes

Buried: Memorial Park Cemetery



Walter Marion Hughes was the son of Edward Thomas and Emma F. Hughes. Walter was a bridge builder with the railroad. The family had 8 children, and moved often, over the years, living in Kansas and Illinois, then Oklahoma.
Minnie Bell was the daughter of Waity Ellen McAllister Shannon, and James A. Nesmith. Minnie married Walter Marion Hughes, on June 5, 1888, and had 8 children

Florence Ellen Hughes Born 23 Nov 1891 in Carrollton, Carroll Co., Mo.-Died 24 Sept. 1975 in Granbury, Hood County, Tx.
Earl Erskine Hughes born 4 Feb 1895 in Moberly, Randolph County, Mo.-died Jan 1983 in Osage, Oklahoma. Wife Grace Nell Luster, born 16 Aug 1895 died 16 Jan 1966 in Stillwater, Ok. Both buried in Perkins Cemetery, Perkins, Payne Co., Ok. 3 children, Gordon Francis, Jack Maurice, and Doris Eloise.
Clifford Walter Hughes born 15 Apr 1893 in Bosworth, Carroll Co., Mo.-died in 1894.
Willie Robert Hughes born 9 Oct 1896 in Bosworth, Carroll Co., Mo. died Apr 1981 in Hill Tx. married Vida Mae Shanks in 1918 divorced Vida, and married Nan Katheryn Farmer in 1944. No dates on Vida. Children with Vida: Gladys Hughes 1918-1995, Hubert Hughes 1921-?, Marthella Hughes 1924-?, Billy Max Hughes 1925-1975, and Edward Lawrence Hughes 1929-?. Child with Nan Katheryn, Elleen Elizabeth Hughes born 1946-d.?.
Ollie Marie Hughes born 26 Nov 1899 in Arkansa City, Cowley, Ks. - died Jan 1987 in Stroud, Lincoln, Ok. married William Ernest Baker 24 Sep 1918 in Chandler, Comanche, Ok. 4 children, Earl William Baker 1919-1995, Marguerite Gertrude Baker 1921-2005, Dorothy Evelyn Baker born 1922 - d?, and Colleen Maxine Baker born 1924-d?.
Mildred Thelma Hughes born 17 Aug 1907 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie, Ok. No other info.
Lucille Lillian Hughes born 17 Jan 1916 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie, Ok.-died 3 Dec 1946 in California state. Burial: Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, Orange County, California.
She married Thomas Gail Burnett born 15 Jul 1915 in Jay Oklahoma-died 10 Oct 1989 in El Dorado, California. He married Gertrude Lawton 29 May 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. 1 child by Lucille-Thomas Gail Burnett born 1940. 2 children by Gertrude-Marsha Louise Burnett born 1949, and Donald Lee Burnett born 1953.
