Andy Marler, 74, Bixby, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008.
He was born Nov. 29, 1933 in Glenpool to Arlin and Selma Marler. He graduated from Glenpool High School. Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Marler married the love of his life, Margaret Haynes, on May 31, 1951.
He was a retired custodian for Glenpool Schools. He also worked animal control for the City of Tulsa, and served 25 years as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Glenpool.
Marler was a member of the Duck Creek Community Church. He previously served as a deacon beginning in 1953 for the First Baptist Church in Glenpool. "Singing for the Lord" was Andy's passion. He sang country gospel and would go out weekly and sing at the nursing homes. Marler was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his Christianity and community service.
Marler is survived by two daughters, Shelly Joice and her husband James of Bixby, and Annette Brown of Tulsa; one son, Randy Marler of Hectorville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Raymond Marler of Leonard and Mark Marler of Bixby; two sisters, Judy Hackworth of Red Oak and June Marlar of Vinita; and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and daughter, Kathy Ann Moses.
Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. in the Duck Creek Community Church. Interment at the Bixby Cemetery. Funeral services under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa.
