Funeral service for Thelma Caroline Marlow, 91, of Tuttle, Oklahoma will be
held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of
Tuttle.
Thelma Caroline Marlow was born in Tillman County, May 29, 1913 at Frederick,
Oklahoma to Adam Joel and Mary (Agee) Stevens and died November 4, 2004 in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of 19 children.
Around 1918, the family moved to Tuttle, Oklahoma. Thelma began playing the
piano at 5 years of age and played for church the first time at 9 years old.
She was born with a God given musical ability and by the time she was a
teenager her gifts blessed many people. She played for silent movies shown in the
Tuttle Theatre which is now the "Opera House" building. She has been an
accompanist for Tuttle Baptist Church, playing organ or piano for 72 years. She
played for many community events such as the Tuttle fair.
Thelma was married to Troy Marlow on November 29, 1932. To this union four
children were born.
In 1960 she had the distinction of being the first woman to ever work for the
Oklahoma Air National Guard. She was a faithful employee for 27 years and as
she would say, "talk all over the world everyday." She loved her job and the
Oklahoma Air National Guard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy in 1988; parents, one
granddaughter, Amy Marlow and 15 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include four children, Troy C. Marlow of Oklahoma City; Judy Marlow
of Tuttle; Mary Henson of Tuttle, and Carolyn Osborn of Tualatin, Oregon; 21
great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Stevens of Frederick, Oklahoma; two
sisters, Leata Stuart of Brownville, Texas and Alma Sturdevant of Sun City,
California.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn (Fairview) Cemetery, Tuttle, under the
direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
