Funeral services for John E. Gunter, 88, of Sallisaw were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mallory Chapel in Salisaw, with the Rev. George Gilland officiating. Burial was in Salisaw City Cemetery, under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home in Salisaw. Mr. Gunter was born April 4, 1912, in Gans, to James Martin Gunter and Lula (Couch) Gunter. He died Saturday, January 6, 2001, in Salisaw. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Fern and D.G., Rosemary and Tom, and Ann; two sons and two daughters-in-law, John Clark and Jackie, and George M. and Janice; one sister, Irene; two brothers, Joe and Dexter; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Okla; one sister; Etta Linker; and two brothers, Jimmy Gunter and George M. Gunter.
