Beatrice Martin Wells, after "fourscore years", surrendered her soul to Jesus on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Born in Choska Bottoms, near Red Bird, she was the daughter of Hosie and Pearlie Martin.
She attended Miller Washington School in Red Bird and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. She later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Red Bird, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She worked for many years as a cook at Miller Washington School, and later, at Helen Raney Nursing Home as a Certified Medication Aid until her retirement in 1986.She was a loving and kind woman, a mother figure to many children and was affectionately called "Momma Bea" by all she influenced and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son.
She leaves in God's care; 2 daughters, Shirley Batiste and Bobbie Howard, both of Red Bird, OK; 2 sons, Willie [Sondra] Watson, Los Angeles and Ronald [Carol] Watson, Wewoka, OK; a sister, Jessie Mae Houston, Oakland, CA; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her oldest and dearest friend, Bertha Hamilton; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The Sacred Farewell will be on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:30 PM in the First Baptist Church of Red Bird. Rev. William T. Janey, Pastor, will officiate. The Christian committal will follow in the Red Bird Cemetery. You may visit "Momma Bea" as she slumbers in sweet repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Friday from 12 Noon to 7 PM.
