Rev. Mike McConnell
August 2, 1930 -December 13, 2008
Rev. Mike McConnell was born August 2, 1930 in Vian, OK, the son of Elmer McConnell and Ella Beaver Locust. He passed this life on December 13, 2008 at his home in Evening Shade Community.
He was a retired minister pastured since 1963. He had pastured Vian Creek Baptist Church. He was also retired from Cherokee Nation as a Community Health Representative and also working in the Transportation System. Mike married Wanda Lee Thomas on June 16, 1949 in Sallisaw, OK.
He is survived by: wife Wanda of the home; 2 daughters, Susan Carol McConnell of Tahlequah, Denise Lee Bemo and husband Jeff of Muskogee; 3 sons, Steve Mike McConnell and wife Karen of Ponca City, Nelson Glen McConnell of Ponca City, Leslie Alan McConnell and wife Debra of Evening Shade Community; 10 grandchildren, Darcy McConnell, Matthew and Mary Geer, Jeremy McConnell, Brent and Leslie McConnell, Sarah Rodgers, Alan and Jennifer Bemo and Liz McConnell; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 brothers, Louis, Leslie, Vincent and James Locust, Charles, Bill and Gary McConnell; 6 sisters, Myria Ballard, Edith Dalton, Paula Christy, Bonnie Turrel, Emma Risley and Alice Applewhite; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer McConnell and Ella Locust; 4 brothers, Cylde McConnell, Abraham, Oaks, and Charles Locust; 2 sisters, Susie McConnell and Lahoma Casinger.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vian Creek Baptist Church with Bros. Joe Grayson, Allison Phillips, Dale Reynolds and Fred Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Barnoski Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Nelson, Leslie, Brent, Jeremy McConnell, Alan Bemo and Matthew Geer. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve McConnell, Jeff Bemo, Dan Sells, Jeff Swimmer, Mutt Houston and Norris Frederick.
Viewing will be Monday from 1 - 9 p.m. at the Agent Funeral Home - Sallisaw. Services are under the directions of Agent Funeral Home- Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
