Curtis J. Smith, 50 year old Woodward resident died Thursday April 23, 2009 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday April 27, 2009 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Kenneth Mulkey officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Curtis James Smith was born on October 30, 1958 to Newt and Thelma Cleta (Lee)Smith at Seminole, Oklahoma. He grew up around Seminole and Bowlegs, where he attended school and graduated from Seminole High School. Curtis was united in marriage to Dorothy Ramirez on April 5, 1989 at Canadian, Texas. They established their home in Woodward, where they remained through out their married life. They were blessed by the birth of two daughters, Charise and Chyanne. Curtis loved and cared for Dorothy's two sons, Shane and Cory Stafford.
He worked for a short time for Cargill, J and R Trucking and Irwin Auto, but his favorite job was driving a rock truck for L and L Backhoe.
Curtis enjoyed older model cars and trucks, going to drag races and watching OU football. He enjoyed teasing his friends and loved being around his children and grandchildren. He was heard saying quite often "There's nothing like being a daddy".
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Charise and Chyanne Smith, all of the home; two sons, Shane and Cory Stafford; four brothers, Kenneth Mulkey and wife Kathy of Clarksville, Tennessee, Marion Palmore and wife Candy of Buna, Texas, John Smith and wife Pat and Jerry Wayne Smith, all of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; two sisters, Cleta Dobbs and husband Bill and Mary Aguilar and husband Mongui of Laguna Vista, Texas; five grandchildren Alexis Stafford, Blake Stafford, Alyssa Ramirez, Keeley Stafford and Jada Stafford; other relatives and many friends.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Neil Sothern; two sisters,Martha Notnovotny and Charlotte Leonard and one grandchild, Taia Stafford.
