Submitted by: Wanda Purcell

Rev. Horace Woodard was born November 22, 1886 in Powell, Missouri, and passed away January 6, 1958 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma, after a lingering illness, at the age of 71 years, one month and 14 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Edna Magee, July 7, 1909 at Powell, Missouri.

They moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico, where they lived until 1914. Then they moved to western Oklahoma and settled near Putman.

He was ordained to the ministry at Puerto, New Mexico in 1911, and served as Associational Missionary of Mills Association for six years, holding revivals in many school houses and churches.

He was truly a pioneer preacher and it was never to hot or to cold for him to answer the call of service. He conducted funerals all over western Oklahoma for 40 years, never refusing because of the weather or illness.

He was well and favorably known over this association, and loved by many who were married by Rev. Woodard or converted in his ministry.

He remembered many touching and amusing incidents connected with his work in the Lord's service.

They moved to Reydon in 1937 where he resided until his death.

He was pastor of the Reydon Church for seven years, and wa a member of the Baptist Church until his passing.

Funeral services were held in the Community building at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 1958, with Rev. Lynn Heard officiating, assisted by Rev. W. S. Little of the Methodist church.

Interment was in the White Rose cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Moore Funeral Home in charge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Woodard of the home address; and three daughters, Mrs. Donald Stetler of Yokohama, Japan; Mrs. Ivan Smith of Lomita, California, and Mrs. Filmore Moisio of Westminister, California; one son, Lester Woodard of Sunnyvale, California; and eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. M. M. Shipley of Tucumcari, New Mexico; and two brothers, E. C. Woodard of Glendale, California; and J. L. Woodard of San Bernardino, California; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
