Richard Roberts Smith was born December 11, 1919 in Painesville, Ohio, to Stanley and Grace Smith. He passed away May 16, 2003 in the Baptist Integris Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 5 days.

Richard grew up in Painsville and Lakewood, Ohio where he graduated from high school.

He attended Bowling Green University before he entered the United States Army Air Corps.

Richard was married to Naomi Juanita "Rusty" Doty at Tinker Air Force Base, Midwest City, Oklahoma on September 22, 1944.

While Richard served his country over the next 26 years they lived in a number of places including Cleveland, Ohio; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Beltran, Missouri; Topeka, Kansas; Washington, D.C; two tours in Germany, Pittsburg and State College, Pennsylvania; and Rochester, New York before moving to Reydon in 1979 to make their home.

When Richard retired in 1971 as a Senior Master Sgt. in the United States Air Force he was currently working in Special Investigations. He served during World War II, Korea and the Vietnam Conflict.

He was a member of the Reydon United Methodist Church, Reydon American Legion, Cheyenne Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree mason and the Cheyenne Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one grandson, Howard, IV.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reydon Community Building, officiated by Rev. Margaret Friend.

Burial will be at White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Smith of Reydon, Oklahoma; one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Gayle Smith of Freeland, Pennsylvania; one sister, Jeanne A. Simler of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Jannie Smith and Robynn Smith; two great great grandsons, Zachary and Lucas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
