Submitted by: Wanda Purcell

Mildred Lavada Barker Butler was born the 5th child of Richard and Mary Barker on September 13, 1905 in Jasper County, Iowa.

At the age of 3 years she with her family moved to a homestead near Rankin, Oklahoma.

Her younger life was spent at home.

On June 13, 1924 she was married to Alva S. Butler. They moved to Pampa, Texas. To this union two children were born, Gerald and Kenneth. The family moved to Reydon in 1929 where they lived until 1940 when they moved to Mr. Butler's father’s homestead west of Reydon where they have resided since.

She was a follower of the Methodist church and was well known for her Christian behavior. She had a real and abiding faith in being a Samaritan as is attested by the fine acts of friends and acquaintances during the last days of her life.

Few have had more or better friends than Mrs. Butler accumulated through a life time of mercy, sympathy and compassion for all who came her way.

She is survived by her husband, Alva S. Butler of the home address; two sons Gerald and Kenneth Butler; two grandchildren, Sharon Jean and Jaree Jan; her mother, Mrs. Mary Barker of Reydon; six sisters, Mrs. Hazel Howell of Mayfield; Mrs. Vera Byers of White Rock, New Mexico; Mrs. Leora Sullenberger of Reydon; Mrs. Edith Brown of Grimes; Mrs. Creda Miller of Texola; Mrs. Ruth Hughes of Reydon; and five brothers, Fred Barker, Earl Barker and Orville Barker, all of Reydon; Glen Barker of Yuma, Arizona and Arthur Barker of Durham.

The funeral services were held Thursday, January 28, 1954 at the Reydon Community Building with Rev. Charlie Simpson and Rev. Carpenter officiating.

Interment was in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with the Moore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
