Dessie Lucille Davis Burks was born March 13, 1918 in Haleyville, Alabama to Charles G. and Lula E. Davis. She passed away July 5, 2002 in the Cheyenne Care Center, Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years 3 months and 22 days.

At the age of 3, she came with her parents and small brother, Lester on the train to Oklahoma. They settled in the Buffalo community.

She attended school at the Mount Rose, Buffalo and Reydon schools.

November 6, 1936 Dessie Davis and Paul Burks were united in marriage. To this union a son was born, Sterling Leon "Bud" Burks.

They lived in the Reydon community for a while before moving to Dumas, Texas. On February 6, 1946, they moved to their farm near Reydon.

Dessie was a member of Reydon First Baptist Church for 67 years. She always helped with the Bible School classes for many years, played the piano, and went to Falls Creek several years with the church group. She was a faithful member as long as her health would permit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Dr. Bud Burks; and two brothers.

Services were held Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Reydon First Baptist Church, officiated by Dale Westbrook and Kelly Smith.

Burial was at the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Survivors include two grandsons, Jerry Burks and wife Peggy of Reydon, Oklahoma; Tom Burks and fiancee Jill Toussaint of Reydon, Oklahoma; three brothers, Lester Davis and wife Clara of Reydon, Oklahoma; Vercia Davis and wife Donna of Mustang, Oklahoma; Carl Eugene Davis and wife Phyllis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three sisters, Glennie Ellis of Spring, Texas; Earlene Hughes of Booneville, Arkansas; Lola Burks and husband Ben of Dumas, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Alene Burks of Cushing, Oklahoma; Patsy Burks of Reydon, Oklahoma; Martha Wilder of Santa Ana, California; two great granddaughters; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
