Francis Marion Davis

Frances Marion Davis, the son of James Lafayette and Marcella Morgan Davis, was born at Dahlonega, Georgia June 17, 1874 and departed this life July 27, 1948 at 7:30 a.m. at his home in Strong City, Oklahoma.

He was 74 years one month and 10 days old.

He received 2 years of training at the Dahlonega, Georgia Military Acadamy before coming to Texas at the age of 26.

Mr. Davis was united in marriage with Miss Berniece Toal, November 26, 1906 at Henrietta, Texas. They moved to Oklahoma in 1913.

Mr. Davis was a good neighbor, a good citizen and a devoted husband.

He was a member of the school board at Strong City for many years.

At one time he was a member of the Odd Fellows fraternal organization.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis became members of The Free Will Baptist Church at Roll, Oklahoma many years ago. He did his Church work with much interest and served in the compacity of Deacon.

His happiest moments were to have his children at home gathered around the organ singing the sacred songs of the church he loved so well.

He was blessed with a loving wife and companion who cared for him day and night with untiring effort during his 18 months of illness.

Survivors include Mrs. Davis; six daughters, Ida Mae Ezzell of Sayre; Effie Lee Groves of Long Beach, California; Alta Scott of Strong City; Berniece Dunham of Ryan, Oklahoma; Francis Scott of Strong City; Ruby Daw of Borger, Texas; one son Weldon Davis of Strong City; and eleven granchildren.

Funeral services were at Srong City Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on July 29, 1948. Rev. M B. Konedy of Sayre and Rev. Brodice Elkins of Cheyenne were in charge of the services.

Burial was in the Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Scroggins Funeral Home of Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
