Jessie E. Briggs was born May 6, 1935 in Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Lois and Noel Briggs and passed away February 22, 1995 at his home in Arnett at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 16 days.

Jessie grew up in Roger Mills county, attending school at Strong City before graduating from Hammon.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and after his discharge, he moved to Dallas where he remained until moving to Hobbs, New Mexico.

Jessie married Margie Wise on November 14, 1980 in Hobbs where they lived until moving to western Oklahoma in 1989.

He lived in Reydon, where he worked as the night watchman before moving to Arnett in April of 1990 to make his home.

Jessie attended the Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Vint Thomas; wife; one brother, one nephew and one stepson.

He is survived by one daughter and son in law, Cynthia Ann and David Parker; his mother Lois Thomas of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; two sisters and brothers in law, Pat and Frank Collins of Durham, Oklahoma; and Roxie and Quinlin Hensley of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother and sister in law, Ronald and Joy Briggs of Ulysses, Kansas; three grandchildren, Andrew, Justin and Misty; two stepsisters, Lola Harris of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and Peggy King of Edmond, Oklahoma; one stepbrother, Joe Thomas of Reydon, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 1995 at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Terrell Romberg, and assisted by Bart Poole.

Interment was in the Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
