Mahala Emeline Culp was born in southern Indiana, June 27, 1842 and died near Grimes, Oklahoma May 7, 1909, aged 55 years, 10 months and 13 days. Her maiden name was Barnes. She was married August 19, 1861 to David V. Culp at Geensburg, Indiana. He died near Bethany, MO, February 1904. Nine children were born to this couple; two dying when young. Those surviving are: Lucius of Trenton, Missouri; Frank at Cabool, Missouri; Willis at Clarinda, Iowa and Mrs. Louise Wasson Borden, Mrs. Sophonia Spence, Everett and Orley, all of Grimes, Oklahoma.
The funeral services were held at eleven o'clock on May 8th, at the home of her son Everett. A large crowd was present to show their respect and loved for one who had endeared herself to all. Rev. French Lancaster of Grimes, had charge of the funeral service, taking for his text 1 Corinthians 15:53. The remains were laid to rest in Rosehill Cemetery---Mrs. Alice Blackburn.
