 Funeral services for Dale Hughes will be conducted Friday, February 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from the A. G. Creach School Auditorium of Hammon with Rev. Winston Curtis and Rev. Stan Baker officiating. Interment will be in the Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
Marvin Dale Hughes was born September 14, 1927 at Hammon, Oklahoma to Perry Otis and Vera Belle Esler Hughes and passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the age of 85.
Dale was married to Velma Louise Williamson on July 24, 1948 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma and they made their home on a farm NE of Hammon.
He served his country in the US Army from 1946 until 1948 and was stationed for a time in Korea and then was recalled in 1950.
Dale was a brick mason, farmer and dairyman through his working career. He served on the Hammon School Board for 12 years and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hammon where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1963.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 21, 2009 and was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Howard Hughes and a granddaughter, Jessica Hughes.
Survivors include four children, Harvey Hughes of Taloga, Oklahoma; Marvin Hughes of Hammon; Dorothy Conway and her husband Gene of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Anita Pennington and her husband, Gerald of Hammon; three sisters, June Trent of Woodward, Oklahoma; Elnora Foster of Elk City; Faye Graybill of Leedey, Oklahoma; two brothers, Merton "Bud" Hughes of Hammon, Oklahoma and Larry Hughes of Rigby, Idaho; ten grandchildren, Dustin Thomas and his wife Susan; Ricky Conway and his wife Brandee; Jeremy Conway and his wife Tonya; Arlie Conway, Lee Pennington, Amanda Williams and her husband Danny; Jennifer Hughes, Sabrina Thomas, Rebecca Wright and her husband Josh; and Melissa Pennington; ten great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
The family requests memorials in Dale's name made to the Baptist Children's Home, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
