Shelton Millard Dick, 52, born December 20, 1915 of Hammon, was killed early Friday morning, July 12, 1968 when the Mack tractor-cattle trailer rig he was driving jack-knifed at the intersection of S.H. 73 and S.H. 34, about two miles north of Carpenter.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Dick apparently fell asleeep. The truck, proceeding west on S.H. 73, ran the stop sign, traveling 312 feet and landed in a gully. The rig jack-knifed and the trailer separated from the tractor, severing a portion of the cab. Investigating troopers said the driver was apparently killed instantly. He was listed as dead on arrival at Memorial hospital in Elk City.
At about 5:00 a.m. M. L. Hager, an employee of the Rose Trucking Company, discovered the accident.
Troopers Curtis Russing, Elk City Unit, and Arthur Barnes of Clinton Unit of the Patrol, said Dick was returning from Hobart at the time of the accident.
Interment Red Hill cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
