Funeral services for John Ewing Carter will be conducted Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Flick officiating.

Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. John Ewing Carter, longtime Hammon resident, died Monday, November 10, 1997 at the age of 82.

John Ewing Carter was born in Yell County, Arkansas on November 28, 1914. He was the sixth of twelve children.

He was married to Elsie Irene Gray on September 21, 1935 at Olton, Texas. They moved to the Moorewood Community where they settled on the H.T. And Zoie Bodkin farm and then in 1944 moved into Hammon.

John was a veteran serving in the United States Army supporting the troops during and after World War II. Later he retired from Civil Service at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Carter on June 22, 1987.

Survivors include his daughter, Wanda June Carter of Billings; a son, Bob Carter and his wife, Mary John of Hammon; three grandchildren, John David Carter and his wife Liz and their children, Kayla and Jesse of Claremore; Joy Dyan Harrison and her husband, Kevin and their son, Kelin of Perryton, Texas; and Jesse Dean Carter and his wife, Wendi and their son, Wyatt of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Thurman Lee Carter and his wife, Sue of Atkins, Arkansas; and a host of family and friends.

The family requests memorials in Mr. Carter's name be made to the Billings Fairchild Center for the Handicapped at Billings.
