Sam Carter Hardy was born June 25, 1934 in Durham, North Carolina to Lula Mae and Benjamin Carter. He passed away near Pampa, Texas at the age of 74.

Sam grew up in Durham and after graduating from high school, he pitched for the New York Yankee minor league baseball team for a while.

he married Don Ella McKee and they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where he began his career in the oilfield.

He later married Reta McCoy and they settled in Reydon, Oklahoma.

Sam enjoyed working in the oilfield and his job took him all over the United States including Alaska and California.

He was actively involved in the community where he had been a member of the Reydon Town Council and also had served as the Mayor.

He loved watching all types of sports and was an avid Tarheel fan and enjoyed playing golf.

Sam loved making people laugh and playing jokes on his friends.

He was a lovng father grandfather and great grandfather who wil be missed by his family and all those who knew him.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elwyn Carter; and his special companions, Tipsy and Tabby.

He is survived by his two daughters, LaDonna Faye Stout and husband Dean of Elk City, Oklahoma; Gena Morley and husband Ronnieof Clinton, Oklahoma; one son, John Hardy of Chattanooga, Tennessee; ten grandchildren, Kristi McWilliams, Nikki Patterson, Logan, Lexi and Landon Donelson, Maci Morley, Miranda, Morgan, Amber and Johna Hardy; three great grandchildren, Christian Canada, Chance McWilliams, and Kierra McWilliams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Reydon First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Alberta Helton and under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Services.
