George Wayne Graves was born in Iowa, February 19th, 1848 and died in Cheyenne, Oklahoma September 26th, 1908, being 60 years, 7 months and 7 days old at the time of his death.

His parents moved to Louis County, Missouri while he was young where he grew to manhood.

In 1870 he moved to Butler County, Kansas where, on January 30, 1874 he was united in marriage with Miss Betsy Chenoweth.

For over 34 years they walked side by side down life's pathway, increasing their joys by doubling them, diminishing their sorrows by dividing them.

To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, Eli W. and Roy L. Graves of Hamburg, Oklahoma; Mrs. Nelly M. Anderson, wife of our fellow townsman, LaFayette Anderson; Mrs. Julia E. Anderson and Miss Willie M. Graves. The children were all at his bedside when the spirit took its flight.

Mr. Graves was an old settler of Roger Mills county, having come in at the opening and filed on a claim about six miles northeast of town, where he lived until he sold his farm in January last. He bought lots and built a house in the east part of town, where he spent the few remaining days of life allotted to him.

He professed faith in Christ and united with the church at about 21 years of age in Missouri but never identified himself with God's people again until five years ago, when he united with the Christian Church.

He had been an Odd Fellow over twenty-five years and was a faithful member of the order until his death.

He was a good citizen, a faithful husband, a kind father and a true friend.

The funeral services were conducted by the writer at the grave, followed by the burial service of the Odd Fellows who followed the remains to the cemetery.
