Dora Faye Miller Downs

Dora Faye Miller Downs, of Cheyenne, was born May 21, 1917 at Stonewall, Oklahoma and passed away Sunday, March 19, 1989 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 26 days.

Dora Faye, the daughter of Jim and Georgia Miller grew up in Kelton, Texas.

On August 3, 1941, she was married to Audrey Downs at Perryton, Texas where they made their home for a short while before moving to the Wheeler and Mobeetie communities. They later moved to Shamrock, living there until 1963 when Dora Faye moved to Cheyenne.

She operated a Day Care Center for several years caring for numerous children from this area. She was lovingly known as "Da Da" to her day care children.

She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne for 30 years and attended the Martha Sunday School Class.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents; step-father, E. P. Joiner; four sisters, Golda Perryman, Emily Freeman, Winnie Billingsley, and Edith Martin; and one brother, Lewis Joiner.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerral Wayne and Gerri Downs of Houston, Texas; Larry Galen and Shirley Downs of McAlester, Oklahoma; Jerry Lee and Jetta Downs of Shamrock, Texas; three sisters, Beatrice Balusek of Kilgore, Texas; Onetta Pierce of Cheyenne; Lena Goss of Gainesville, Texas; three brothers, John L. Miller of Chama, New Mexico; Otto Miller of Pampa, Texas, Tom Joiner of Mangum, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren, Jarrett Downs, Garrick Downs, Lace Sir Forban, Trampas Forban, LaDawyna Faye Dean Downs, Adelia Downs and Ashley Downs.

Services were held Wednesday, March 22, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne with Jerry Perryman and Ken Shiplet officiating. Burial followed in the Kelton, Texas Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Services, Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
