Sidney Roy Cogburn, Sr. was born March 28, 1911 at Strong City, Oklahoma to Charles R. And Dovie M. Hilt Cogburn and passed away in Veterans Hospital at Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 28 days.

Sid attended school at Square Top and Strong City graduating from High School in 1929.

He was married to Mildred F. Tomberlin April 28, 1933.

He worked in the Strong City vicinity until the early 1940's when he and his family decided to go west and look for a better life.

Sid found work in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was employed by a trucking company, which was later known as ICX.

Sid was drafted into the Army in 1944 where he was sent to Germany, and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. After two years in and out of hospitals he returned to Strong City and farmed and ran a dairy.

After the death of his mother, the Cogburn heirs agreed to sell the farm to Robert. Sid returned to Albuquerque and to once more work for ICX which he continued until his retirement.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred of forty five years; one brother, Robert of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Goldie Trammell of Bakersfield, California; and Flora Belle Johnson of Elk City, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his four children, Jo Ann Pasby and husband Jim of Clinton, Oklahoma; Charles R. and wife Mary Alice; Sidney Roy, Jr. and wife Linda; and Betty Gonzales and husband Bob, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Survivors also include his sister, Gladys Little of Dallas, Texas; and sister-in-law, Maye Cogburn of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and several brothers and sisters-in-law of the of the Tomberlin family as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services were held December 30, 1997 at the Fitzgerald Mortuary in Albuquerque with burial following at Santa Fe National Cemetery with his wife.
