Services for John A. Blurton, age 96, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004.

Services were held Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Bell.

Burial was at Ochitree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton, Texas.

John was born in Crawford, Oklahoma on March 7, 1918. He married Winifred Morris on November 21, 1941 in Gray, Oklahoma.

He worked for a Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America at Gray, Oklahoma. He retired in 1983.

He served with the 4th Infantry in combat on Attu Island, Alaska. After returning from military service in 1945, he was employed by Ochitree County maintaining County roads.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Wheatheart Shriners and Ochitree County Senior Citizens Association.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred Blurton of Perryton, Texas; four daughters, Beverly Merchant of Irving, Texas; Barbara Vance of Dallas, Texas; Verna Blurton of Dallas, Texas; Wanda Street of Alexandria, Virginia; three grandchildren, Tracie Merchan, Lexye Street and Samuel Street; three sisters, Ruby Klein of Monroe City, Missouri; Arlee Githens of Perryton, Texas; and Gean Barnett of Phoenix, Arizona.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lula Blurton, one sister and one brother.

The family requests memorials to Opportunity Plan, P.O. Box 1035, Canyon, Texas 79015 and Ochiltree County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 738, Perryton, Texas.
