Thomas Duncan Boren
Submitted by: Leila Evett

Thomas Duncan Boren was born 30 April 1864 in McLennon County, Texas. On the 23rd of November 1899, he filed for homestead in Section 24, Twp 13 North, Range 22 West of the Indian Meridian along with his sister Susan Florence Boren. His sister cancelled her homestead application but Tom Boren was issued his final certification for fulfilling the requirements of homesteading on the 18th of October 1906.
Uncle "Tom" as he was affectionately called by all in the community was never married but when his sister Maude died, he assumed the parental responsibility of rearing her son Robert Burrows. His love and devotion to this nephew was admired and respected by all who knew them.
When Tom Boren died 12 December 1946, his funeral services were held in the Kiowa School House on Saturday the 14th of December 1946 at 3 p.m. His many friends and neighbors came to pay their last respects to this beloved man whose honesty and intergrity had been an example for all to follow. The Reverend O. B. Powers of Hammon, Oklahoma officiated. The pall bearers were: Jesse Allen, John Allen, Opal Bright, Fred Stubblefield, Audie Luttrell, Dolph Luttrell.
He was laid to rest in the Kiowa Cemetery.
