Services for Z.R. Chowning pioneer of the Durham community, who died October 28, 1958 in Oklahoma City, were held Friday afternoon in the Durham auditorium with the Rev. Gerald Main of Cheyenne officiating. Born February 26, 1881 in Celina, Tenn., he was married on August 2, 1902 to Alma Esther Hughes at Chandler. He moved to Durham in 1919 from Davenport, Oklahoma and resided in that community until 1943. Survivors are one son, Ernes of Oakland, California, four daughters, Mrs. Faye Wilson of Longview, Texas, Mrs. Mary Nickell of Alva, Mrs. Martha Mitchell of Seminole and Mrs. Fern Minerosa of Oneonta, New York, two brothers, four sisters and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife. Committal was in the Fairview cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Scroggins funeral home in charge.
