Hullum Turbyfill - - Funeral services for Hullum Turbyfill, retired farmer and rancher, 707 North 7th, Sayre who died Saturday, January 5, 1961 at the Shattuck hospital following an extended illness, were held Monday, January 7, 1961 at the Sayre Free Will Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Clyde Hammor and Rev. Lynn Heard officiating.
Born September 27, 1889 at Denton, Texas, Mr. Turbyfill came to western Oklahoma with his parents in 1903 where they homesteaded in the Grimes community.
He lived there until 1944 when he moved to Sayre.
He was married to Katie Gamble May 27, 1916, at Cheyenne, who preceded him in death in 1943.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.
He married Effie Rowe at Sayre, Oklahoma.
His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife of the home, two daughters; Mrs. Iris Pennington of Reydon and Mrs. Reta Thompson of Lawton; three step-daughters, Mrs. Juanita Shun of Hobart; Mrs. Thelma Calhoun of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Edith Barber of Crawford; five grandchildren, Mrs. LaVerne Elliff of Lawton; Randy Thompson of Lawton; Larry Pennington, Charlene Pennington and Don Pennington of Reydon; two great grandchildren, Jimmy and Timmy Elliff of Lawton; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Lee Hickory and Mrs. Leah Olson of Grimes; and two brothers, Luther of Grimes and Bill of Oklahoma City.
Pall bearers were Alba Paddock, Jay Bowers, Uncas Ely, Aubry Parman, David Dane and Mayo Cox.
Committal was in the Dempsey cemetery, Dempsey, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with the Moore Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.
