Jane Ely Schmidt was born February 26, 1914 in Berea, Kentucky to Henry and Mary Crockett Ely.
She passed away March 2, 2003 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 89 years and 4 days.
Jane moved with her family at the age of four to Doxey, Oklahoma and in 1927 the family moved to Roger Mills county.
She graduated from Cheyenne High School and later from Southwestern State University.
She was married to Isaac Schmidt at Clinton, Oklahoma on May 31, 1951. They lived in the Roll Community until 1956 when they moved to Sweetwater. They moved to Sayre in 1985 to make their home.
Jane taught school in Roger Mills County for 41 years.
She was a member of Sayre Church of the Nazarene.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, James Lee Schmidt; one grandson, Christopher Lee Schmidt; one great grandson, Trenten Isaac James Schmidt; and one brother, H. C. Ely.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Julie and Brent Skelton of Elk City, Oklahoma; Sabrina Armer of Boonesville, Arkansas; one granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Schmidt of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; eight great grandchildren, Ethan Schmidt, Christian Skelton, Nathan Dunlap, Cody Skelton, Brandon Armer, Landon Armer, Shelby Armer and Courtney Armer; two sisters, Frankie Tidwell of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Deaton Williams and husband, Tom of Sayre, Oklahoma; one brother, Leonard Ely and wife, Shirley of Elk City, Oklahoma; one sister-in- law, Laquita Ely of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Thursday, March 6, 20032 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sayre Church of The Nazarene.
Interment will be in the Dempsey Cemetery, Dempsey, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
