Samie "Buck" BurckhalterSamie "Buck" Burckhalter was born October 12, 1929 in the Sunny Point area to Leah Irene Aulbert and Samie Darrow Burckhalter.

He passed away November 21, 2012 at Wheeler, Texas at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 9 days.

Buck grew up in the Sunny Point, Erick, Texola and Meridian communities.

As a kid during the dust bowl, he made the great migration to California with his parents where they found work.

After returning to Oklahoma, Buck went on wheat harvest a couple of times before he found himself moving back to California to broaden his horizons. He worked in a winery and he eventually married Vera Naomi Mong on June 1, 1946. After their marriage, they remained in California where he became a lumberjack for a brief period of time.

For the next 21 years, Buck and Vera moved around the great western states following the oil field.

In 1960, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where Buck worked for the Atomic Energy Corporation for 6 years before moving back to Sweetwater where he started the Burckhalter Dairy on the family farm.

Buck enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing and spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the Sweetwater Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Ted Burckhalter and Ellen Watson; and one sister, Fern York.

He is survived by his wife, Vera of the home; two grandchildren, Ben Burckhalter and wife April of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; Brandi Millar and husband Justin of Sayre, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Austyn Blevins, Avery Blevins and Addyson Burckhalter; one sister, Kaye Hopkins ofOklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Paul Burckhalter and wife Donna of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;l and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Assembly Of God Church officiated by J. M. Ashley and Brent Hutchins.

Burial will be at Dempsey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
