John S. Smith, 65, a farmer of 306 North Adams street, Elk City, died Wednesday, March 8, 1944 at the western Oklahoma hospital of a heart ailment after a two month's illness.
He was born in Bloomfield, Missouri and married there some 18 years ago to Effie Casey who preceded him in death in 1932.
They moved to Beckham county in 1930.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include Bette Ruth Smith; Leonard Casey with the U.S. Air Corps, somewhere in England; Charlie Casey of Harrington, Kansas; Joe Casey of Elk City; and Mrs. Rucette Layton of Hoisington, Kansas; and a sister, Mrs. L. F. Skelton of Elk City.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 9 at 1 o'clock from the Martin-Hullum chapel.
Reverend H. C. Hathecat, officiating with interment in Berlin cemetery, Berlin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
