Albert Louis "Pete" Protz

Juneau resident Albert Louis Protz died June 25, 1999, in Juneau.
He was born June 11, 1913 to George and Cora Winkler Protz, in Silvis, Illinois and was raised in Franklin Park, Illinois.
He joined the Marine Corps as a private in 1936, and retired as a major in 1963. Three of those years were spent as a prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan.
After leaving the service, he owned and operated several restaurants in Oceanside, California.
He later lived in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Apache Junction, Arizona before coming to Juneau three years ago.
He enjoyed gardening, golf woodworking and cooking, eagerly sharing his culinary creations with others.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Protz of Del Rio, Texas; his sister Vera Pisarski of Norcross, Georgia; his son, Jim of Juneau; his daughter, Judy Sheehan; grandchildren, Kim and Tanya; and great-grandchildren, Rachel and Alex, all of Oceanside; as well as numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers George and William.

Albert Louis "Pete" Protz was born June 11, 1913 to George and Cora Winkler Protz in Silvis, Illinois and died June 25, 1999 in Juneau, Alaska after a short illness.
Pete joined the Marine Corps as private in 1936 and retired as a major in 1963. Three of those years were spent as a prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan.
After leaving the service, he owned and operated several restaurants in Oceanside, California.
He lived in Cheyenne from 1971 until 1989 when he moved to Arizona and then to Alaska three years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and William.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Protz of Del Rio, Texas; his sister, Vera Pisaraki of Norcross, Georgia; one son, Jim of Juneau, Alaska; his daughter, Judy Wilson of Oceanside, California; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of Oceanside, California; as well as numerous friends.
